Summit’s Beckie Hines Selected As Exemplary Nurse Manager

Summit Orthopedics is proud to announce that Beckie Hines is among the three Twin Cities nurses honored as outstanding managers in the November issue of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine.

At Summit Orthopedics, we know that our nurses make an invaluable contribution to the quality of our medical care. It is no surprise that in Minnesota, registered nurses are in high demand, with nursing needs expected to grow 26 percent over the next eight years. This month, we celebrate Mpls.St.Paul Magazine’s inclusion of our own Beckie Hines, the nurse director of Summit Orthopedics Surgery Centers, among the top three nurse managers in the Twin Cities.

As the nurse manager of our surgery centers, Hines exemplifies the expanding role of nurses in medical care. She handles business and managerial operations as well as clinical oversight—budgets, staffing, facilities, compliance, and process improvement. “You are only as good as the people around you,” Hines tells the magazine, explaining that she is inspired by the NASCAR team model. She sees the patient as the driver, and every team member working together with respect for each member’s skills, explaining that she wants to make sure everyone has a work environment conducive to exceptional care, and the tools to be effective.

We have seen Hines’ leadership model in action during the development of a new approach to advanced quality surgical care for a lower cost, which was realized with the opening of our Vadnais Heights Surgery Center (VHSC). The innovative surgery center was the brainchild of Hines and Dr. Peter Daly, and the result of principles and lessons learned during their volunteer medical work in rural Honduras. Hines and Daly worked with their Summit team to design a new model for a surgery center that provided high-quality service, improved patient experience, and reduced costs.

Hines was instrumental in the creation of Summit’s new surgery center that offers advanced clinical and surgical technology, infection control enhancements, patient education, luxurious care suites for patient recovery located steps from the operating rooms, on-site physical therapy, and bracing and orthotic needs. No other orthopedic health provider in the Twin Cities offers the comprehensive quality of surgical care provided by Summit’s VHSC in a single location.

The Vadnais Heights Surgery Center has earned a “2014 Award of Excellence” from the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP), the Minnesota Physician magazine “Honor Roll,” a Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal “Best In Real Estate” Award, and is featured as an interior design/architecture project finalist in the November 2015 Minnesota Business issue recognizing leaders in health care.

We are proud to have Beckie Hines recognized for her dedicated commitment to ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality of orthopedic care.
