Meet Summit Performance Specialist Heidi Corbett
The Summit Orthopedics Wellness Center offers a personalized training alternative to big-box gyms. Summit performance specialist Heidi Corbett explains how she tailors her services to help clients achieve their fitness goals.
“I was really excited when I heard that Summit Orthopedics had built a gorgeous new wellness center,” remembers performance specialist Heidi Corbett. “I loved the idea of a multidisciplinary fitness program for our community and for Summit patients. Summit’s approach is a perfect fit with my passion for integrating exercise, nutrition, and stress management to improve overall well-being.”
Fitness is a way of life for Heidi. “I’ve always been active,” she says. “I played a number of sports growing up, and an ACL tear as a high school freshman soccer player introduced me to sports medicine. In fact, my doctor involved me in a study of high school-age females with ACL replacements; the research was focused on comparing rehabilitation therapies.”
Heidi’s enthusiasm for fitness led to an undergraduate degree in physiology from the University of Minnesota, and a graduate degree in exercise physiology. “It’s so powerful to understand that some diseases, as well as injuries, can be addressed—and sometimes prevented—through strength and conditioning training,” she says. “It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you are in life; physical training is so versatile that anyone can make it part of his or her routine. I’ve worked with children with disabilities, college athletes, and corporate professionals. My focus is always on helping my clients understand all the ways that exercise can enhance life and improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being.”
Heidi enjoys working with a wide range of people, and delights in seeing self-confidence grow with strength. “One of my favorite populations is women who are hesitant about using the weight room,” she smiles. “Weight training is a great way to break stereotypes that get in the way of health. Here at Summit’s Wellness Center, there’s nothing intimidating about weights; it’s just me and my client working on her goals. I think it’s empowering to learn how to strengthen muscle safely—I love watching my clients feel strong, build self-esteem, and start feeling more confident with themselves and their bodies.”
