Two Blue Distinction Center + Honors
Blue Cross and Blue Shield has recognized Eagan Surgery Center as a Blue Distinction Center + (BDC+) facility for spine surgery. Eagan Surgery Center is the only freestanding surgery center in Minnesota to earn this distinction. It joins 16 hospitals across the state in making the list. BDC+ facilities meet overall quality measures for care and also meet cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable healthcare.
In addition, Blue Cross Blue Shield honored Summit Orthopedics’ Vadnais Heights Surgery Center as a BDC+ facility for hip and knee replacement surgery, one of only 41 hospitals and surgery centers across Minnesota to receive this honor.
About the Blue Distinction program
Blue Cross Blue Shield created the Blue Distinction program to help people choose the best option for specialty healthcare. Doctors and facilities that make the Blue Distinction Centers list have an established track record of providing excellent care that results in great outcomes for patients.
There are two levels of Blue Distinction Center: BDC and BDC+. Each hospital or surgery center on the BDC list offers great quality care with expert physicians and better outcomes. To join the BDC+ list, a facility must meet the quality, safety, and patient outcomes benchmarks of a BDC, plus also deliver care at a lower cost, resulting in excellent value for the patient.
Both Eagan Surgery Center and Vadnais Heights Surgery Center feature specialized care for orthopedic and spine surgery. These two Blue Distinction Center + awards are the latest in a series of honors for Summit’s surgery centers. Summit’s Vadnais Heights Surgery Center was awarded The Joint Commission’s Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement — one of only two surgery centers anywhere in the United States to receive this prestigious certification. It has also earned the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for quality.
Summit Orthopedics’ Eagan location won the prestigious Certificate of Distinction for Spinal Fusion by The Joint Commission. We are the first group in Minnesota to have received this award for patient satisfaction and key outcome measurements.
