What happens during an MRI?

During an MRI scan, you lie on a flat bed that is moved into the scanner. Depending on the part of your body being scanned, you will be moved into the scanner either head first or feet first.

An MRI technologist will control the computer’s scanner. You’ll be able to converse with the technologist, who will let you know how the scan is progressing. You won’t feel anything, but will hear a noise as the images are acquired.

It’s very important that you keep as still as possible during your MRI scan. It will last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being scanned and how many images are taken.
