HealthEast Sports Center Enhanced Physical Therapy Services For Summit Patients

Sparkling two-story glass walls enclose Summit’s HealthEast Sports Center physical therapy facilities, making Woodbury’s expansive landscaped green space an extension of the therapy space. Skilled and cheerful therapists coach you along every step of your rehabilitation journey.

Physical therapy patients at Summit Orthopedics’ new HealthEast Sports Center work with experienced therapists in a breathtaking setting. Therapist Lana Schultz Krumwiede reviews the center’s exciting array of expanded services designed to comprehensively support recovery.

There are four full-time Summit physical therapists currently on staff at HealthEast Sports Center that have moved from other Summit locations. “Our physical therapy team at HealthEast Sports Center has a lot of energy and commitment to our community initiatives,” explains Schultz Krumwiede. “We are all proponents of wellness and make use of the expanded options available here.”

Because the new facility incorporates an array of gym equipment for wellness programs, therapists have access to a broader range of equipment than what might be available otherwise. “When a rehabilitation patient asks me about the safety of a piece of equipment at their gym, we can have them try the equipment out right here in clinic,” says Schultz Krumwiede. “We can evaluate body position and mechanics as patients use machines to make sure it will be a safe part of their rehab. Patients feel much more at ease when we can walk them through the weights or elliptical machine they want to use and demonstrate how to use these tools safely.”

“Summit’s HealthEast Sports Center facilities are also designed to offer a more comprehensive model of therapeutic care,” explains Schultz Krumwiede. “Because physical therapy services are integrated with our new wellness services, patients have more options to pursue their fitness goals, including personal training, group exercise classes, and the services of a registered dietician.

“To an extent,” she continues, “physical therapy sessions can be dictated by insurance coverage limitations. Often, a patient finishes rehab and is doing well, but really wants to get back to a specific sport or more strenuous exercise. We can certainly do sport-specific training, but now we also have performance specialists working side by side with us on our wellness staff. With additional wellness resources at our fingertips, we can be strong advocates to help our patients get ongoing support when they want and need it.”

Part of what makes the physical therapy program at HealthEast Sports Center so special is quick access to services and equipment not available at other locations. HealthEast Sports Center performance specialists can do strength and conditioning training to enhance rehabilitation after a surgery, for example. Other patients may be interested in losing weight; they may elect a HealthEast Sports Center wellness consultation that includes help from Summit’s registered dietician.

“Our focus as physical therapists is grounded in our understanding about how certain injuries affect the body, and the precautions and restrictions inherent in the early state of the recovery process,” explains Lana. “It’s our responsibility to address and resolve these limitations. This may include exercises that help a patient regain range of motion and strength, as well as hands-on manual therapy. We are also using different techniques to manage pain as the patient progresses. By the time a patient completes physical therapy and elects to move on to a performance specialist, pain should be well managed. We are all committed to helping patients pursue their objectives for an active, healthy life.”
