Meet Daniel Probst, M.D.
Summit Orthopedics sports medicine physician Daniel Probst, M.D., helps people improve their function, so they can do what they want to do.

Daniel Probst, M.D., is a sports medicine physician. “As a specialty, sports medicine is all about function — helping people do what they want to do each day,” he said. He takes care of problems affecting all bones, muscles, and joints, and he has particular expertise in treating hip and buttock pain.
His favorite aspect of his specialty is making a tangible difference in his patients’ lives. “At first, you see patients when they are hurt and not doing well, then you treat them, and then you see them again when they are doing better,” he said.
Dr. Probst’s background
After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Dr. Probst earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He completed residency training in PM&R at Washington University in St. Louis, where he also served as academic chief resident. After his residency training, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Washington University in St. Louis as well.
As a nonsurgical physician, Dr. Probst focuses on conservative treatment, getting patients better without surgery. “It’s part of my job to refer patients for surgery at the right time, and when appropriate, but ideally, I like to treat patients nonoperatively,” he said.
Dr. Probst’s practice philosophy
Active listening is an important part of his practice. “The patients know best what they’re going through, and if I can listen to what is going on, I can design a more effective treatment,” Dr. Probst said.
As part of the nonoperative treatment options he offers, Dr. Probst is trained in a range of ultrasound-guided injections, including steroid injections and platelet-rich plasma injections. These can be helpful for treating arthritis and tendon disorders, as well as joint and muscle pain.
Dr. Probst’s hobbies
When he is not working, Dr. Probst enjoys spending time outside, whether fishing, hiking, camping, gardening, or running. “I enjoy living as active a lifestyle as I can,” he said. He also spends lots of time playing with his young twin sons.
