Bracing Provider Types
Summit’s Bracing providers consist of Certified Orthotists, Pedorthists and Orthotics fitters.
Certified Orthotist
A certified orthotist is an allied health professional specifically educated and trained to make and fit orthoses and manage comprehensive orthotic patient care. These individuals are certified to independently provide or supervise the provision of patient care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.
Orthotic care may include, but is not limited to, patient evaluation, orthosis design, fabrication, fitting and modification to treat a neuromusculoskeletal disorder or acquired condition.
Certified Pedorthist
A Certified Pedorthist is another allied health professional specifically educated and trained to manage comprehensive pedorthic patient care. These professionals provide devices for the prevention or improvement of painful and/or disabling conditions of the foot and ankle. “Pedorthic devices” means therapeutic shoes, shoe modifications made for therapeutic purposes, partial foot prostheses for transmetatarsal and more distal amputations, and foot orthoses. Excluding custom shoes, a Pedorthist provides orthotics that do not extend beyond the junction of the gastrocnemius and achilles tendon.
Certified Fitter-orthotics
A Certified Fitter-orthotics is another allied health care professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of certain orthoses that mainly includes prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthoses.
