About
Interventional Spine Expert
As an interventional spine medicine specialist, I believe in treating neck, back, or leg pain symptoms by supporting the patient’s body so it can start healing itself. I believe in the body’s innate ability to heal itself, and I use the most conservative treatment methods possible to help people reduce pain and achieve their highest level of function. I use a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment and am committed to caring for my patients and improving the quality of their lives.
I knew from a young age that I wanted to practice medicine. Before I became a doctor, I was a physical therapist. That experience gave me invaluable training in musculoskeletal medicine, which I built upon in medical school by specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. I continued developing my expertise with a fellowship at the University of Washington, Seattle: the birthplace of pain and spine medicine, where I chose to concentrate on interventional spine.
During my training, I saw that many people with spine pain were not being treated appropriately. The goal of my interventional spine practice is to ensure that doesn’t happen to my patients. My specialty is very rewarding, because I work with my patients to intervene and improve their pain with a combination of lifestyle changes and treatments. When they begin to see improvement, it’s a wonderful feeling.
Dr. Jose Santos’s Approach to Care
I aim to offer a comprehensive approach to treatment, which starts by talking with my patients and their family members to determine what their daily activities are and how those might be aggravating their symptoms. My goal is not only to improve the current spine pain the patient is experiencing but also to prevent it from happening again.
Patients will often come to me for a second (or third) opinion, and they’re pleasantly surprised by how detailed our approach is. We take the time we need to understand the source of the patient’s pain, and we aim to offer the most advanced approach to their care. We stay up to date with the newest interventions in the field.
Dr. Jose Santos’s Outside Interests
My family and I love to travel and try new cuisines, and I’m always looking for new recipes to try at home. I get a lot of ideas from my patients, and I enjoy hearing about their travels all over the world and the recipes they’ve brought back. It’s a great way to learn about different cultures and connect with people through shared experiences like these.
