About

Hip and Knee Replacement Specialist

I’m an arthritis surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacement. I focus my treatment plans and surgical techniques on minimally invasive approaches and fast recovery protocols.

I am passionate about joint replacement surgery because it allows me to restore important aspects of life for my patients — not just mobility, but also overall quality of life. I have the privilege of working closely with my patients, taking the time to understand what matters most to them and how arthritis prevents them from doing what they love.

Whether it’s gardening, keeping up with grandchildren, training for a triathlon, or returning to the ski slopes, helping patients get back to what brings them joy is deeply rewarding.

Focus on Quick Return to Function

I emphasize efficient recovery and quick return to function for my surgical patients. The less time patients spend limited after surgery, the better they tend to do and the more quickly they regain their strength and mobility. A key part of this approach is taking a comprehensive view of pain management, using multiple techniques to control discomfort and swelling while minimizing reliance on narcotics.

Physical therapy and strengthening exercises are essential for a successful outcome after surgery. My goal is for patients to return to a high level of function and get back to the activities that matter most to them. Physical therapy is one of the most effective tools we have to make that happen after hip or knee replacement surgery.

The Importance of Patient Education to Dr. Hansen

I take great pride in patient education. My goal is to provide patients with clear, thorough information about their condition and the full range of treatment options available to them. A successful outcome starts with understanding: of the diagnosis, the treatment plan, and the long-term outlook.

I also take time to get to know my patients: how they stay active, what their goals are, and what they hope to get back to. My team and I tailor each recovery plan based on those goals. Ultimately, it all comes down to quality of life. Everyone has different priorities and passions, regardless of age. Helping my patients reach the point where they can return to the things they love — that is what I find most rewarding.

Dr. Hansen’s Outside Interests

I’m a Minnesota native, and I’ve played sports my whole life. I really enjoy staying active and getting outside. I run, bike, and especially love water skiing, which is something our family enjoys together in the summer.

I have a young family, and most of my free time is spent trying to keep up with my kids and their sports and activities (and the occasional dad basketball game — results vary). We also love to explore together, whether that’s traveling, hiking, or finding small adventures close to home.
