About
Dr. Steven Stulc, Interventional Spine Care Provider
I was born and raised in a small town in Northwest Iowa before coming to Minnesota for college, medical school, and residency training. I have been in private practice for about 15 years, practicing interventional spine care. I feel substantially fortunate to be part of such an amazing group of people who all work as a team to better serve our patients.
I chose this field of medicine because it combines musculoskeletal medicine with neurologic medicine, and I find the anatomy of the spine particularly interesting. Most patients who are dealing with some type of spinal pain find their condition to be very limiting, changing their lives in negative ways. My hope is that we can always make a difference to improve these patients’ quality of life.
How Dr. Stulc Approaches Spine Care
Understanding the spine and spine pain can be difficult for patients and even for other doctors who don’t specialize in spine. My goal when seeing patients is to perform a history and physical exam, include advanced imaging as needed, and then try and come up with a working diagnosis. Once we have a diagnosis, then we have a better understanding of what treatments are available. Next, I talk with patients about what options exist for each condition and then empower patients to make the best decision for themselves. I see my role as an advisor, counseling patients about which treatments make the most sense for their condition.
My current practice involves offering patients a number of different minimally invasive interventional spine and pain procedures. I also work very collaboratively with spine surgeons, physical therapists, and other practitioners to maximize patient improvement.
Dr. Stulc’s Outside Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and young children, who always keep me on my toes and certainly keep me entertained. If I find any extra free time after that, you can probably find me casting a fly line or riding some dirt trails on my mountain bike.
